Hi! My name is Kim Ewins & I live in a city called Orange,
which is a 3-4 hour drive west of Sydney, Australia.
My husband, Roy and I have 8, (yep! 8!!) wonderful children together.
They range in age from 23 down to 6 years of age, (5 sons & 3 daughters.)
We recently found out we are to be grandparents early next year,
so that is very exciting……oh! The photos!!!
I started scrapbooking about 6 months after the birth of my
last child in 2006 & now wish I had started so much earlier.
I am on four other amazing Design Teams:-
www.craftqueen.com.au,  www.scrapmatts.com
 {our 2013/14 permanent sponsor - woo hoo!!}
My style is along the grungy, shabby chic lines but I love to try new things & mix it up!
I love  working with neutrals & pastels & lately I have
started venturing into water colouring on my layouts.
I love texture, buttons, lace trim, machine stitching & tea dyed canvas.
A huge THANK YOU to Helen for this wonderful opportunity - I am so excited to be here!
I would love for you to check out my blog HERE & join as a follower if you like my style!!

Here are some of Kim's beautiful layouts...

Canvas Tutorial from Lisa Griffith!

*View our current challenge HERE - only 5 days left to get your entries in!!*

Yup one of our favourite regular players {and past winner!} has sent in a lovely CANVAS tutorial to share with you!

{yes you can make a canvas for your entry as long as it is a minimum of 8 inches square}.

ENJOY & remember to leave some love for dear Lisa!

"My name is Lisa Griffith & I live in the US with my husband of 13 years & our 7 year old son Liam. I have been scrap booking since my son was born but it is within the last year that it has developed into my passion! I love it so much because it combines my love of photography & my love of all things vintage, & having time to express myself creatively is so relaxing & rewarding.

One of my favourite things to do is to go to estate sales and antique markets to hunt for treasures such as vintage photographs and magazines, old postcards and letters, sewing notions, or bits of old lace that I can incorporate into my layouts.

My style is feminine, shabby & distressed, I like my designs to have an antique worn look like an old tattered book & I love using lots of inks & flowers. I have helped design kits for The Scrapbook Diaries & I have recently started my brand new blog!  I am so excited to share my tutorial with you here today!'

--------------------------------------------------------------------

This is what Lisa has to say!  "Anyone who is new to doing a canvas & hesitant about it
- no need to be!  It is much like creating a mixed media layout, with the same mediums
& techniques, just a different format. So here are the steps:-

Step 1.  Choose your photo & your theme then gather your materials together.
I chose a beach theme & photo from my recent vacation.
I gathered up shells from the beach but also cheated a little bit and bought some!

Materials List:-

12x12 canvas
Stencil/Mask {mine is from Prima}
Gesso, Modelling Paste & Gel Medium {I used Liquitex}
Some pieces of lace & cheesecloth
White Acrylic Paint
Various mists {I used Tattered Angels}
different seashells, acrylic
Various embellishments {I used wood pieces from KaiserCraft,
 Prima flowers & crystals}

Step 2. Prime your canvas with a thin layer of gesso & let
dry naturally or dry off using your heat/embossing gun.

Step 3. Using your mask apply a thick layer of modelling paste randomly, in
various areas on your canvas & let it dry, either naturally or using your heat gun.

Step 4.  Adhere pieces of fabric or lace plus torn strips of paper,
remembering that what matters here is TEXTURE not colour.

Step 5. Paint over your added lace/fabric/paper using white acrylic
paint. Add several coats so it is nice & thick.  Push a few pieces of
cheesecloth into the wet paint for even more texture.  Wait for
everything to be thoroughly dry or dry off with your heat gun.

Step 6. Start applying your mists { I used yellow, orange & gold} & keep going
until you are happy with the result.  The more you mist the more drips you get
so add more if you like the 'drippy' effect.  If the colours appear too bright
you can blot off excess with a paper towel or dilute using a water spray.

Step 7.  Once dry, adhere some ephemera items for interest. Now adhere your
chosen embellishments (shells, wood, flowers, etc): adding more mists if desired.

(Gel Medium works great as a glue too as it dries clear  -
I applied it in blobs then sprinkled small shells into them).

Stamp randomly across your canvas.  Double check that you are happy with
everything & you have completed your misting before finally attaching your photo.

Thank you Lisa!

So there you have it!!  Creating a canvas DEMISTIFIED!!!  Remember to leave
some comment ♥ for dear Lisa & let us know if you have learnt something new today :)

10 Golden Rules {to make your scrapbooking life easier & more fun!}

See our latest challenge HERE.

Please take a minute to read through our NEW & UPDATED rules.

Things are getting simpler for you here at Scrap Around The World
as we head into our 6th month already!
So take a peek to keep yourself in the loop!!
Happy Sunday!!!

I have copied & pasted the '10 Golden Rules' from our page tab up top.

1.  We are a South African based challenge blog with an international design team
& encourage all scrapbookers & art journalers to join in, whatever your style
& wherever you live :) {ALL our prizes are always sent out internationally}.

2.  We accept scrapbooking pages/layouts & canvases with a minimum size
of 8 x 8 inches.  We also accept art journal DOUBLE-SPREAD pages
(minimum single page size of 14 x 19cm/5.5 x 7.5 inches per page).  We do
not accept digital entries, off-the-page projects, altered items, ATCs or tags.

3.   To play along all you have to do is use our ANYTHING on our MOOD BOARD
for inspiration & LET US KNOW what it was that inspired you!  For example one
of the images or more than one of them, or perhaps just the general mood/theme or
the colours.  As we are NOT a COLOUR CHALLENGE SITE you don't need to
use any colours from our mood boards UNLESS YOU WANT TO (if you do you
can use as many or as few as you like).  Our sketches are OPTIONAL.

4.  You need to post the image of our mood board in your post AND mention
that you are playing along with us at 'Scrap Around The World' -
including a link back to the challenge reveal post to be eligible to enter.

5.  You need to be a blog owner to play.  (so you can link up to your blog).

Please don't link up to galleries as often this is problematic if our design team
are not members of the same gallery & therefore cannot gain access easily.

6.  You may combine our challenges with any other challenges
that allow it or any of your design team work.

7.  You may submit as many entries as you like!
8.  To enter our challenges you need to add your creation to our linky tool
on the right-hand side of our blog RIGHT AT THE TOP,
along with a DIRECT LINK TO YOUR POST.

{To do this click on the title of your post then copy & paste what
 you see in the address bar - the ENTIRE URL into the linky tool}

Please do not link to your entire blog as this makes it difficult to find your post
& therefore could result in us being unable to comment on or judge your entry.

Then add your NAME & COUNTRY to your title on the linky tool - this is so
that if you are a finalist or featured we get your location correct on our Wall of Fame
as this cannot be changed once it is  created & if you don't tell us we have to guess... :)
9.  In the unlikely event that our linky tool is malfunctioning we will accept links
in the comments section but for this reason only,
if all is working as per normal please use the Linky!
{& if the linky malfunctions & is repaired please return & add your layout to the Linky}.

9.  The onus is on the prize winners to email me at scrapaddict {at} telkomsa {dot} net
on or before the 10th of the following month.  Prize winners are to please provide
their postage details (full name & full postal address) together with their name &
WHAT THEY HAVE WON in the subject line.

---------------------------------------
Our challenges will run ONCE A MONTH and be revealed on the 1st day of every
month.  Entries are due in by midnight (Eastern Standard Time - US) on the LAST
DAYof each month, with winners announced around the 4th of the following month.

We feature TEN ENTRIES every month.  Finalists are voted for by our Design Team
& we have ONE winner, FOUR features & 5 finalists who each get a badge to
display on their blogs.  We also draw a random winner monthly so anyone can win!

Wherever possible prizes will be awarded to our top 5 entries plus our random winner.
The merit winner is invited back as our Guest Designer the following month & is featured
in his/her own post together with a head shot, 10 sentence bio & any relevant links.

We do our best to ensure that each entrant receives a comment from a few of our
design team members IF they do NOT have Word Verification on their blogs
{if you do it is less likely that you will receive comments so if they are
important to you please select COMMENT MODERATION instead}.

Guest Design Team Inspiration from Inkido!

Hello there Scrap Around The World fans!
Today we have some extra inspiration to share with you,
from one of our previous sponsors, Inkido!  {Papercrafts Scandinavia}.

Using our current mood board {and optional sketch} -
Just look at what their talented designers have come up with for YOU!

First up we have our old friend  Bente Fagerberg from Sweden.

Bente was clearly inspired by the theme of the mood board & has shared such
a true sentiment with her daughter - great use of our mood board from Bente!

Next up we have Ulrika Blomfelt, another talented Swede!

Ulrika was clearly inspired by the bold & graphic nature of
the mood board, not to mention the colour scheme too of course!

Thank you Ulrika for this stunning contribution!!

Karin - Kajsan also contributed a wonderful page.

Karin has made such a beautiful layout - love all the white & the soft touches of black!
Proof that black & white can still be gentle, romantic & shabby if that is your style!!

Lastly we have the super-talented Emeline Seet of
Singapore with one of her amazing signature-style layouts!

Gorgeous!!  I love how Emeline was so clearly inspired by the tender
image of mother & daughter, hence chose such a sweet photo of her own child.

I hope that you have been inspired today!

Please leave some LOVE for these talented ladies & pop
in at the Inkido blog HERE for even more inspiration!!
